About Me
Judy M. Tepley, born January 15, 1948, St. Paul, Minnesota. Seems like my life began after leaving home to enter college. The late 60's-70's were formative and mind opening. I participated in the varied social unrest of the time. I dabbled a bit artistically but the classroom format and limitations were not my scene. Trained as a Master Sail Maker. Opened several studios at different times. Lived and worked in several loft/ gymnasium spaces for many years doing art and making sails and boat covers near Lake Superior. Sailed on the Great Lakes as porter, 2nd cook and steward for a steamship company. Gave birth to a son. Left the familiar and flung myself out to new experiences, living in Mexico and Guatemala for 4-5 months each of three years, then moving around the West in my old beater van. Finally landed after about five years on the road in the Teton Valley area of Wyoming. This began a profound and fruitful self teaching through Art. I have far exceeded any ideas I imagined for myself about skills and abilities in various mediums.
After 20 years in Wyoming, I heard a persistent inner voice saying, Go West! So after being nagged to distraction by this voice, I did, landing here on Orcas Island off the coast of Washington State. More and better Art has come forward, mostly very contemporary. The love affair of beads and geometric form and pattern continues to delight me. May 2010 I went through a Spiritual process to be a giver of the Oneness Blessing, a profound and life altering event. As a result my artwork and medium changed. I began to paint again and a series of Circle Paintings and Painted Spheres emerged which are a joy and cool candy for the eye. Who knows what's next? A new geometric came through in the middle of the painting run and endless smaller sculptural ideas. Currently my focus and fascination is with the needlework of Temari.
At the creative core level "My cup runneth over." Making more honey than poo in all other areas as well. YES!
